Picture of the day 19 March 2011
In the morning we went looking for the Menkrawit marls in the oil plantation that is now at the place were Leupold mapped them. Besides some heavily disturbed limestone ridges and a 1 square meter outcrop of a blue gray marl with ' Planostegina' and some float corals, this was not very succesful. In the afternoon we rented a boat and explored the sea-cliffs. We were not able to get ashore at the intended location, but in the limestone cliff we found a beautiful, probably Late Miocene, platy coral facies. Our new PSG team member Dedy is acting as a scale.
